Summer?

Things started off pretty well in May and June and in looked as if we were going to have a really good summer - what happened.  We took a trip to Stourhead at the end of May. It was an absolutely beautiful day and we were anxious to use our National Trust membership. They say they are dog friendy; well not by my rules they are not allowed in any of the formal gardens or their pub. So we had to find a well shaded place to park the car and, after taking Max for a walk, left him in the car with all 4 side windows slightly open. The gardens are absolutely splendid and well worth the visit. Below is a picture of the lake.

And another taken looking from the grotto

We left Stourhead at about 1.30pm searching for a suitable pub for lunch after some pretty poor navigation on my part we eventually ended up at a pub, who's name escapes me in a village who's name I can't remember. The food was good but a little pricey which is a shame because I will never find it again.

We then went on to Shaftsbury, stopping at the Bison farm in West Knoyle on the way. I thought the famous bread advert was filmed in Yorkshire but as you can see from the picture below it was really Gold Hill in Shaftsbury. Nowt taken out except the location.

It was a pretty good day out even Max enjoyed himself in spite of Stourhead.

About a month later we were off again on another gorgeous day to Durdle Door on the Dorset coast. We found a car park in the camp site at the top of the cliffs, not cheap but close where we wanted to be. The path down to the beach is extremely steep and is not for the faint hearted. You need to be reasonably fit to even consider it. What a beautiful place see the photo below.

Durdle Door

After lunch we walked to Lulworth Cove and back. Compared to Durdle Door it was very disappointing.

Then came July and the summer ended, which is why I am sitting here at my computer in the pouring rain.
